ISSCC (IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference) 2010 was held February 7-11, 2010 in San Francisco, California, and leading-edge integrated circuit technology was presented. We presented research results together with NEC Corporation at this year's event.

Hi again, it's me Elly. Today I am going to tell you all about NEC Electronics's host controller, "µPD720200" that supports the new Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0.

In April 2009, NEC Electronics' system LSIs was awarded the Minister of the Economy, Trade and Industry Prize at the 18th Global Environment Awards in Japan. The history of this LSI goes back two years when the engineers set out to develop a system LSI that could deliver both advanced functionality and low power consumption.

The "2009 Symposia on VLSI Technology and Circuits"—widely recognized as premiere conferences for presenting research results on the latest device, process, and circuit-related developments—were held this year at the Rihga Royal Hotel in Kyoto, Japan, from June 15 to 18. Here we introduce the papers presented by NEC Electronics or in collaboration with NEC Corporation.

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are gaining attention as lighting different from conventional incandescent electric bulbs and fluorescent tubes. Dr. Eco introduces the drivers and microcontrollers that power LEDs, a source of energy-saving light.

Along with gaming, video playback, touch-panel operations, and other advanced capabilities for portable devices, there has been growing demand for clear, high-resolution LCD displays. NEC Electronics has now developed a low-power, low-cost graphic buffer IC that supports full-color VGA graphics displays. Here the engineers highlight the strengths and the key episode in the development of the new product that is fabricated with NEC Electronics' unique 90-nanometer (nm) embedded DRAM technology.

NEC Electronics has brought a new product lineup to the V850 Series of 32-bit All Flash® microcontrollers, which has been adopted in various fields, including automotive, inverter appliances, and digital AV, and has secured a substantial market share: The V850ES/Jx3-E with built-in Ethernet functions.
The main target is industrial and office devices, and building and plant management systems, which are expected to incorporate Ethernet in the future.
